A youth club has been celebrating after its efforts were recognised with an award from London Youth and City and Guilds.

Mayor of Bromley Ian Payne presented the Gold Quality Mark Plaque to Bromley and Downham Youth Club leader Ann Wodyatt at an open evening last Wednesday (September 13).

President Peter Harman was present, along with trustees and guests, including Mervyn Kaye of Youth First Lewisham, local police, volunteers, parents and carers.

The members of the club joined in the evening and the Boxing Club gave a demonstration in the boxing gym.

Philip Cheverton, chairman of the trustees, said: “We see this award not only as recognition of the quality of work that is done at the club but also as a tribute to the dedication of the part-time staff team, including volunteers and trustees, who deliver the service to the young people.

“The good comments from the young people who are members of the club, their parents and guardians, are what makes all the hard work worthwhile, and as a team we have achieved this significant award.”

The Youth Club, in 41 Valeswood Road, Bromley, is open during term time from Monday to Thursday at 6.30pm for ages seven and over, and also offers a daytime school holiday club.
