Woman dies in blaze at Orpington home

Met Police are working with LFB

A woman in her 90s has died after a fire started at a home in Orpington this week.

No fire engines were called to the property in Crofton Road, as the blaze had already been put out.

London Fire Brigade were notified of the blaze by Met Police officers.

A spokesperson from the Met said: “At 3.12pm on Wednesday, April 6 police were informed by London Ambulance Service of a sudden death at Crofton Road, Orpington.

“A 91-year-old female was found deceased at the scene with burn injuries.

“Enquires continue, but at this stage the cause of death is not believed to be suspicious and may have been accidental.

“London Fire Brigade was not called to the scene, but have been informed.

“Next of kin have been informed.”
