An 84-year-old woman is in intensive care after a fire erupted at a Penge care home last night.

Firefighters were called to a blaze on the first floor of Burrows House, in Derwent Road, at around 10pm.

Six residents were evacuated from the floor, though all 55 residents were assessed by London Ambulances crews.

An 84-year-old was taken to King’s College Hospital, in Denmark Hill, suffering from smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and is currently unexplained, though it is not being treated as suspicious.
