Never mind Fifty Shades of Grey – good old-fashioned romance is alive and well in the borough of Bromley.
Card Market, in the High Street, held a Valentine’s competition last month asking customers to post a message to their loved one in its window.
And Pearl Harris was crowned the winner after penning a delightful message to her husband of 50 years, Reg.
It read: “For My Darling… Love is after 50 years together when seeing your hubbie coming towards you from across the room your heart misses a beat. Happy Valentine’s Day. Always yours, Pearl.”
The couple, who have four children and 11 grandchildren, will now enjoy a romantic dinner for two.
Mrs Harris said: “I was visiting my daughter in Bromley and went into Card Market to buy a card.
“I saw they were holding this competition but I never thought penning a few words on a heart would lead to this.
“When I wrote the message, I had my iPad and took a picture of my love note and emailed it to Reg. He thought it was fantastic.”
Store manager Andrew Odish said: “We have seen creativity and romance flourish at Card Market this year. Our windows have been adorned with love notes from people declaring their undying love to the object of their affections.
“The response has left all of us at Card Market speechless. Congratulations to Pearl on winning the top prize.”
