A CHARGE of attempted murder was dropped at Croydon Crown Court after the prosecution accepted the defendant's plea of not guilty.

Avaro De Gouveia, 45, of Kynaston Road, Bromley, was accused of attempting to murder his wife Elizabeth on May 7 but had the charge dropped on Thursday, September 19.

But he admitted a lesser charge of wounding with intent and was remanded in custody until October 24 when reports will be presented from probation and a psychiatrist.

Judge Warwick McKinnon warned him: "I am not considering anything other than a custodial sentence.
