Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells, Bromley, Tonbridge, Maidstone and Ashford have all been named among the top 50 places to live in the UK in a list dominated by the south east.

The Halifax Quality of Life 2015 survey takes into account a host of factors, among them employment levels, salaries, health care, crime and education standards.

And while Hampshire’s Hart district scored highest, there was plenty of Kent representation.

The highest placed borough was Sevenoaks (at number 14), followed by Tunbridge Wells (31), Bromley (37), Ashford (38), Tonbridge and Malling (42) and Maidstone (44).

Leader of Ashford Borough Council, Gerry Clarkson, said: “Being named as the 38th best place in which to live in the UK is pleasing. It echoes everything residents have told us about the borough as a desirable place to live. We have the lowest council tax in Kent, we have the most improved recycling service in the country, and the borough is attracting large-scale investment.”
