Ceremonies will be taking place across the borough

One hundred years ago, the First World War raged and the Gallipoli campaign had been under way for months.

The campaign would claim the lives of hundreds of thousands and on Sunday the nation will pay its respects to all those who paid the ultimate price defending the country in wars and conflicts across the globe.

Remembrance Day services will take place across Bromley, with the traditional two-minute silence to be held at 11am on November 11 – Armistice Day.

Deborah Harte, from the Bromley division of the Royal British Legion, is encouraging everyone - young and old - to take pay their respects.

She said: “Every year a good number of people support Remembrance Sunday and we encourage everyone to wear a poppy and helps us provide thousands of modern veterans, service men, women and their families with vital advice and support. So join this year’s Poppy Appeal and wear your poppy with pride.”
