Wet weather fails to dampen spirits at Queen's birthday party in Chislehurst

More than 1,500 guests celebrated on Chislehurst Common

Chislehurst Common was packed on Saturday to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th birthday.

More than 1,500 guests braved the rain to celebrate with a traditional themed street party organised by the Trustees of Chislehurst Commons.

The charity protects and maintains green spaces in and around Chislehurst.

After braving the rain, locals enjoyed live music and country dancing, with red, white and blue on show across the common.

Donna Bompas helped organise the celebrations.

She said: “People here know how to have a good time and the sense of community is priceless.

“A bit of rain did nothing to dampen spirits and if anything, the weather mde it even more of a day to remember.”

Chair of the Trustees, John Hayhow, said: “Despite the weather, people still turned out to have fun together on the common and show support for what we do.

“We are extremely thankful for the team of loyal volunteers who put in long hours to stage this event.”
