RESIDENTS had to be evacuated to safety after a fire ripped through a carpet warehouse in a busy high street.

Twenty-five people were rescued after firefighters were called to the blaze at a single story carpet warehouse on Beckenham High Street at 3.30am last Sunday.

It took 60 firefighters and 12 fire engines nearly nine hours to bring the blaze under control by midday.
