UPDATE: Murder investigation launched after 19-year-old man is shot dead in Penge

A murder investigation has been launched after a man was shot dead in Penge on Wednesday.

Police were called to Kenilworth Road just before 8pm where they found a 19-year-old man suffering a gunshot wound to the head.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead at around 8am yesterday morning.

His next of kin have been informed and a police are now awaiting formal identification. A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

An incident room has opened under the Homicide and Serious Crime Command at Lewisham. There have been no arrests at this stage.
