Workers at The Glades in Bromley were evacuated on Monday after a package was found abandoned in the shopping centre.

Reports on social media had suggested a ‘suspicious package’ had been discovered in the shopping centre.

A spokesperson from The Glades confirmed to us that a rucksack had been left in the Carphone Warehouse store.

Police were called to the scene just at 7.23pm, outside of the centre’s opening hours, with remaining staff and restaurant goers evacuated.

Specialist officers were called to the scene to investigate the contents of the bag.

By 8.53pm the examination of the bag had been completed and its contents were identified as non-suspicious.

Centre manager Kate Miller said: “As soon as it was determined that the incident was a false alarm, the centre was re-opened.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this caused our customers and we are back to business as usual.”
