The incident happened on December 31

Transport police are looking for a man following a “vicious” assault on a train just after midnight on New Years Eve.

A passenger on the Blackfriars to Orpington train was assaulted after he saw a man pour beer over a woman during an argument.

When the passenger intervened, the man attacked him with the bottle, leaving him with a nasty head injury.

DC Rachel Smith from British Transport Police said: “This was a vicious attack, which left the victim with a deep cut to his forehead requiring stitches.

“Clearly, the woman who had the beer poured over her is also a victim and we need to find her too so we can fully investigate.

“We have carried out CCTV enquiries on the train and we have uncovered an image of a man who we would like to speak to about both offences, and I would urge anyone who knows him to contact us.

Anyone with information about the incident can call BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or text us on 61016 quoting reference 25 of 31/12/2015.

Alternatively, details can also be given to the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
