Commuters in West Wickham faced rush hour chaos on Monday (April 2) after a car collided with traffic lights, closing part of Station Road for more than two hours.

A silver Vauxhall Astra collided with a set of lights at the High Street junction shortly before 3pm, putting them out of service.

The junction reopened at around 5.15pm.

Buses were diverted and Transport for London issued warnings to avoid the area.

Some drivers took to Twitter to vent their frustration, Sean Burrows tweeted: “Bloody road shut in West Wickham is a mare!”

The male driver was treated for minor injuries.

The traffic lights were repaired and the junction is now in full use.
