The borough’s top policeman is due to discuss his plans for coping with five fewer sergeants at City Hall tomorrow (Thursday)

Borough Commander Charles Griggs will propose to the Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA) that 10 wards should share a sergeant instead of each of their Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNTs) having one.

He said: “Whilst the reduction of five sergeants is unwelcome news for Bromley, I am confident that we will be able to provide effective leadership and supervision to our teams.

“The MPA delayed discussing the Met’s proposals until the full authority meeting. However, as it is public knowledge, I wish to share with you my proposals for managing Safer Neighbourhoods.

“A selection process will commence in July.”

Wards which will share a sergeant are Plaistow and Sundridge with Bickley; Copers Cope with Shortlands; Chelsfield and Pratts Bottom with Farnborough and Crofton; Orpington with Petts Wood and Biggin Hill with Darwin.

There are no plans to cut PCs or PCSOs as suggested in the original consultation.
