Three rogue traders from Orpington have been jailed for scamming a man out of thousands of pounds in Dartford.
David Vincent Senior, 50, of Wagtail Way, Orpington, David Vincent Junior, 26, of Barnfield Road, Orpington, and John Baker, 36, of Ravensbury Road, Orpington, made numerous visits to the victim’s home in the St Vincent’s Avenue area, each time asking for more money.
On Monday November 6 2017, the men knocked on the victim’s door, a man aged in his 60s, and told him he had pigeons in his roof.
Vincent Jr then inspected the loft and said part of the roof was rotten and needed to be replaced, and the victim handed over £1,000 after he was told the work would be completed the next day.
The fraudsters then claimed that they needed £5,000 to repair rain damage.
The victim paid the sum and the men again claimed they would start work the following day.
When they returned, they also claimed that the loft was infested with rats - Baker showed the victim three of the dead animals which he said he had just caught, before asking for more money.
With the cost of the work escalating, the victim contacted his insurance company to make a claim.
He was then advised to contact the police.
Following enquiries, all three men were arrested.
