A THEATRE director is leaving his post after helping co-produce 40 shows and working with everyone frm sopranos to pop heartthrobs.

Director of The Churchill theatre in Bromley Derek Nicholls announced he was leaving his post of six years last Thursday.

He will now be working for the world's largest pantomime producer - Qdos - as head of the newly merged theatre and hospitality department.

At Bromley Nicholls worked with major producers and stars to launch new productions, including Carousel starring Lesley Garrett and David Essex's All the Fun of the Fair.

Nicholls said: "I am honoured to be invited to head the new theatre division at a point where it is poised to become a leader in entertainment, the performing arts, and creative learning.

A spokesperson for The Churchill said: "We are obviously disappointed to be losing Derek from the ATG Management Team but wish him much success in his future career.

"The Churchill has been in a financially robust position since ATG took over management of the venue in 2000, well before Derek's appointment.

"ATG has invested in excess of £1 million in the building and capital costs, and a further £1 million in facilitating co-productions to launch at the venue, as well as bearing the significant financial risk associated with co-production activity.
