The Glades shopping centre is to be re-named intu Bromley after owners Capital Shopping Centres announced the creation of a nationwide brand.

As part of a £25million project, all 12 Capital Shopping Centres (CSC) including The Trafford Centre, in Manchester, and Lakeside, in Thurrock, will change their names.

Replicating the Westfield brand that is soon to add a third London location in Croydon, the intu re-brand will also see free WiFi installed throughout the Bromley shopping centre.

Howard Oldstein, general manager at The Glades, said: “The initiatives will facilitate world-class service benefiting customers, retailers and staff alike, allowing us to benefit from being part of a national consumer brand while retaining our local personality.”

Unconvinced shoppers took to Twitter to share their disapproval of the name change.

“Most people will think #out of not go #into”, said @RobtheCamera.

@TheTheatreFox added: “Have I misread the date, is it April 1st? How do you pronounce the word?”

CSC will officially change its name on February 18, with the intu brand being rolled out across all locations from May.
