Four teenagers arrested in connection with the fire at Darul Uloom Islamic school in Chislehurst have been bailed by police pending further enquiries.

The two 17-year-olds and two 18-year-olds were arrested on Sunday following the blaze at the the school in Foxbury Avenue, late on Saturday night.

The teenagers have been bailed to return to a south London police station in August.

A Met spokesman said police are still trying to establish the full circumstances of the fire, adding: “We are asking members of the public to remain calm and not to speculate as to the cause of the fire.”

Anyone with information can call police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Since the fire at the school, in which 130 pupils and staff were evacuated and two people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, there has been an increased police presence around potentially vulnerable locations in the borough and across London, including additional patrols to try and provide reassurance and deter crime.
