One teenager has died and another is in a serious condition in hospital after a motorbike accident in Mottingham yesterday afternoon.

The 18-year-old man, thought to have been the pillion passenger, died at the scene of the accident, which happened at 4.35pm in Mottingham Road near the junction with William Barefoot Drive. The motorbike is thought to have collided with a traffic island.

The 17-year-old, who is thought to have been the rider, remains in a serious but stable condition in an east London hospital.

Although police believe they know the identity of the man who has died, he will not be named until his next of kin have been told and he has been formally identified.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident. Anyone with information should call 020 8285 1574.
