A 16-YEAR-OLD girl appeared in court charged with manslaughter.

The teenager appeared at Bromley Magistrates Court on Friday after she allegedly caused the death of 21-year-old Lee Waite from Bromley.

The court heard how in the early hours of February 10 this year, Mr Waite's Mini Cooper, carrying seven people, overtook a vehicle then hit a tree and smashed in to a driveway with two parked cars in it.

Emergency services battled for an hour and a half to save Mr Waite, a part-time waiter, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The girl was the front seat passenger in the car which was estimated to be travelling at a speed of around 60mph.

Other passengers alleged the teen, who cannot be named for legal reasons, grabbed the steering wheel of the car, causing it to turn off the road and that this was the cause of Mr Waites' death.

She appeared with her mother and brother and spoke only once to confirm her name, address and date of birth.

She will next appear at Bromley Magistrates Court on November 21 where the case will be committed to the Crown Court.
