A BOROUGH Commander has met with bosses of a bail hostel company after their application to build a facility near the borough was scrapped.

Bromley Borough Commander Charles Griggs held talks with ClearSprings last Thursday after their bid to build a bail hostel in Downham in Lewisham was scrapped days earlier.

Mr Griggs said: "The purpose of the meeting was to ensure a common understanding existed between ClearSprings and Bromley police about the unique demographics of Bromley and the political operating environment.

"We also discussed the police role in determining the suitability of the location of any proposed hostel and how we could involve the local community in any possible future application."

This comes after Downham residents were left furious about not being told the recent plans and finding out the news from a builder.

So far ClearSprings have made nine applications to site hostels in different locations in Bromley but they have all been rejected by the police claiming they were in inappropriate areas.
