A Sydenham kebab shop worker who sexually assaulted an 11-year-old schoolgirl has been jailed for a year.
Ali Tok, 50, of Allwood Close, was found guilty of sexual touching of a child under 13 at Woolwich Crown Court earlier this month and sentenced today.
The incident occurred at a shop in Leahurst Road, in Hither Green, on February 7 when Tok was serving behind the counter.
As the victim waited for her order, Tok invited her to come and sit in the back of the shop out of public view. He then told her he loved her and sexually assaulted her.
The victim began to cry and when her food was ready, Tok passed it to her and she left.
She went straight home and told her mum about the incident, and the police were called. Officers attended the shop where Tok was still on duty and arrested him.
In a police interview, Tok denied sexual assault and instead offered the explanation that his face had brushed against the young girl’s after she dropped her food and he was helping to pick it up. He added that he gave her a consoling pat on the back.
Det Insp Jim Pryde said: “The young victim has been extremely brave and there is no doubt this assault has rocked her confidence and trust in people.
“With the support of specially trained officers, she has seen her attacker convicted and this sends out a strong a message to anyone who sexually abuses children that they will be pursued and brought to justice.”
