BUDDING musicians showed off their talent in front of songwriter Richard Stilgoe OBE to celebrate their achievements at a youth project.

Young DJs, singers and MCs performed in the showcase last Monday (19) to celebrated the ArtsTrain music project at the Duke Youth Centre, St Mary Cray.

In the audience was Mr Stilgoe, who co-wrote lyrics for The Phantom of the Opera, and Youth Music's chief executive Christina Coker.

The ArtsTrain project, for youngsters aged nine to 19, is funded by Youth Music's PowerPlay scheme for which Mr Stilgoe is chairman.

Ms Coker OBE said: "It's great to see young people working together, gaining skills in creative activities - and for many of them a first experience.

"The progress they've made, with lots of hard work and commitment over the last few months, was clear. All the young people taking part also showed extremely positive attitudes and amazing confidence - St Mary Cray should be really proud of them."

Working in partnership with Bromley's Youth Services and Bromley Mytime, the project gives young people the opportunity to take part in weekly music sessions with professionals from Positive Youth Expression (PYE).
