Book will be moved to St George’s Chapel in Biggin Hill on Tuesday

A local book of condolence will be opened this evening (Wednesday) for the Shoreham air show jet crash tragedy.

It will give local people the chance to express their sympathy and thoughts following Saturday’s accident in which a vintage Hawker Hunter jet performing at the popular south coast crashed onto the A27, killing 11 people.

The book - which has been organised by the Vicar of Cudham and Downe, the Rev John Musson - is being opened tonight at St Mary’s Church in Downe and will then be moved to St George’s Chapel in Biggin Hill on Tuesday.

Mr Musson said: “Following Saturday’s tragedy in Shoreham, it seemed right to open a local book of condolence, given the strong links between Biggin Hill and other airfields.

“This will be available in St Mary’s Downe from this evening and over the Bank Holiday weekend, the church will be open during the day, then moved to St George’s Chapel at Biggin Hill on Tuesday.”

In mid-September, Mr Musson, Vicar of Cudham and Downe will take the book to Shoreham.
