A burst water main in St Mary Cray High Street has left 70 homes without water and roads closed for up to a week.
The main, owned by Thames Water, caused an 150m² flood at the junction with Elizabeth Way around 12pm today.
Parts of St Mary Cray High Street, Blacksmith Lane and Elizabeth Way will be closed for days for resurfacing work.
Fire crews from Orpington, Sidcup and Bromley raced to pump the water off the road but some of the untreated water ran into the River Cray, causing concerns about how it will affect the water quality.
Thames Water says it will address environmental issues.
A spokesman said: “ We are very sorry for the inconvenience. We are working to fix this problem as soon as possible.”
