Residents got together and joined in a tug o’war and party games at a Jubilee gathering in Orpington.

The street party at Kynaston Road saw a road closure and neighbours enjoying the fun with old friends and enjoying the opportunity to sit down and meet some of their neighbours they had not chatted to before.

Joyce Way who helped organise the fun said: “Wet or not, we had a lot of fun.”

Despite the seasonal rain people rallied round with gazebos to shelter under and Mrs Way said: “We had a torrential downpour but everyone rallied round and the best bit of it was people singing along in the kerbs with their brollies when the DJ played “Singin in the Rain”.

Neighbours joined in a tug o’ war with the children and mums beating the dads, apple bobbing, limbo dancing and hula hooping.

There were also skipping races and prizes were presented at the end of the day.

Mrs Way said: “It’s a long road and the top end of the road didn’t know the bottom end of the road so it’s great to get everyone together.”
