Shortlands by-elections: Conservatives hold onto seat

The Conservatives have held onto the Shortlands ward after a 30 per cent turnout.

Conservative candidate David Barrington Jefferys received 1,480 votes in the Shortlands by-election yesterday, comfortably beating the Liberal Democrat candidate Anuja Prashar, who came second with 490 votes.

Labour’s candidate Gareth Wyn Abbit was third with 256 votes, followed by UKIP’s Emmett Jenner with 153 votes. The Green party received 75 votes and the British National Party received 35 votes.
