A SHOPPING centre is launching a shoebox appeal for UK servicemen and women in Afghanistan.

The Walnuts Shopping Centre in Orpington kicks off its Operation Shoe Box Appeal next Monday which will run throughout February.

Shoppers are asked to fill a shoe box with everyday items such as deodorant, sweets, razors and wet wipes which will then be sent to troops abroad.

To help the charity raise £5,000 for a container that will be used to ship boxes out to troops, shoppers are also asked to tape a £2 donation to the outside of each box.

The Walnuts target is to get 200 boxes donated by Sunday, February 21.

Centre Manager, Martin Price said: "Operation Shoe Box is a fantastic organisation working for a really great cause.

"I'm sure that with the help of local people we can reach and even exceed our target.

"People can also include a personal message in their box which will help boost morale and make even more a difference to the recipient."

Shoe boxes can be dropped off at the Centre Management Suite in The Walnuts Shopping Centre.
