SCORES of drivers were stopped for not wearing their seatbelts in just three hours during a neighbourhood road safety operation.

The Bickley Safer Neighbourhood Team, Driver Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) and Bromley council held a road safety crackdown on July 8.

They stopped 42 cars between 9am and 12pm in Bickley Park Road and the majority of the drivers were not wearing seatbelts.

Two drivers were stopped for using mobile phones and four for no road tax on their cars. PC Stuart Manuel of the Bickley Road Safety Team said: "Influencing future driver behaviour can often be achieved through education rather than enforcement and our aim with this initiative was to raise awareness of what speeding, not wearing a seatbelt or talking on a mobile whilst driving can do.

"If we can save just one life, then it will have been worth it.
