Royal Mail was forced to apologise to customers in Chigwell and Hainault as staff shortage is creating delivery delays

It delivered 94.8 per cent of first class mail on time.

A report has shown that Royal Mail delivered a target-beating performance in the BR - Bromley - postocode area for the first quarter of the financial year.

It delivered 94.8 per cent of first class mail on time - the next working day after posting - against their target of 93 pc.

The results are published in the latest Royal Mail Quality of Service report - measured by independent market research company TNS Global - covering the March 30 2015 to June 28 2015.

Nationally, the report reveals that the Royal Mail met its regulatory first class mail target for the first quarter of the financial year, delivering 93 pc the next working day.

It also exceeded its second class mail target of 98.5 pc, delivering 99 pc within three working days.

Tony Fox, operations director for Royal Mail, said: “Our postmen and women work extremely hard to deliver to some of the most demanding quality of service standards in the whole of Europe. We remain the only UK delivery company to publish our quality of service and we are proud to do so.

“We are more focused than ever on continuously improving and maintaining high standards of service for our customers.”
