A SOCIETY is trying to uncover the past of an historic recreation ground, with the help of residents.

Pat Hill, vice-chairman of the Friends of Chislehurst and Walden Recreation Grounds, is researching the area, particularly between the recreation ground and Elmstead Lane.

Mrs Hill said: "I have already found some interesting information and would like to know more about the Chislehurst Athletic Association who sold the ground for the park after the war to the Chislehurst and Sidcup Urban District Council."

The ground was opened in August 1948 by the Chislehurst May Queen and it is thought that many sports events took place in the area.

Mrs Hill added: "I would greatly appreciate receiving peoples

memories and if possible copies of any photos, documents or postcards that they may have." If you can help call 07881 551819.
