ROGUE traders will find it harder to operate after council bosses set up a list of responsible businesses.

The Trader Register scheme is free for local businesses to join and will make it easier for Bromley residents to choose a trustworthy tradesman.

It was set up the scheme comes after rogue tree surgeon Sean Varey, 19, from Dartford, was fined £500 and ordered to pay £500 costs for giving dodgy paperwork when he was caught out on BBC1's Rogue Traders programme.

To join the scheme, Bromley-based traders must apply to the council, giving three references to be checked out by Trading Standards officials.

Traders can apply for the scheme online at www.traderregister.co.uk.
