More than 100 people came to celebrate the grand re-opening of the Mountfield Community Hub in St Mary’s Cray last weekend (Saturday July 28).

The centre has been undergoing an extensive refurbishment since last year.

Funded by Clarion Futures, the charitable foundation of Clarion Housing Group, the transformation has seen the centre, in Sandway Road, be completely redecorated and kitted out with new equipment, including a brand new outdoor soft play area.

To celebrate the centre’s reopening, residents were treated to a family fun day with a bouncy castle, face painting, games, sport and music to entertain the crowds, with Councillor Christopher Pierce of Cray Valley East cutting the ribbon.

Sally Smith, who runs Play Place CIC, said: “It was great to see so many members of the local community at the newly refurbished centre and get them involved with our future plans, which include workshops to help single mums get back into work and regular fun days, as well as setting up two new youth clubs for both juniors and teens.

“The hub is here for the whole community to use and we’re looking forward to welcoming many more new faces to the centre now it’s open again!”
