A car hit a lamppost last night with such force its engine came out.

The incident happened outside The Pickhurst Pub, in Pickhurst Lane, West Wickham at about 9pm.

Firefighters were called to “petrol on the road” and when they arrived found the Audi but there was no sign of the car’s passengers.

A firefighter said: “The engine had come out which is something I have not seen before and the lamppost was still upright. It’s quite unusual.”
