A SOD turning ceremony marked the beginning of construction work for a £1.4 million state of the art school building.

When complete, the new centre at Darrick Wood School in Lovibonds Avenue,

Orpington, will have purpose built classrooms, an early years centre for sensory impaired pre-schoolers, accommodation for specialist teachers and a children's centre. Speaking at the ceremony on Thursday, September 11, Bromley council's member for Children, Ernest Noad said: "This new centre will provide a vital improvement to the lives of young people.

"I am proud to have marked the beginning of this important new build in the borough.
