Demonstration over cuts to services for disabled adults
Protestors are staging a demonstration outside Bromley Council offices tonight over cuts to services for disabled adults.
The council is considering proposals to outsource services for disabled adults at its meeting at 7pm.
Disabled people, carers and members of the Unite trade union will stage a demonstration at 6pm before attending the meeting.
Unite spokesman Onay Kasab said: “Public questions have been given in to the council to ensure that some kind of debate takes place
“We have been leafleting the public in particular on the privatisation of the Astley Day Centre and have gained tremendous support.
“Workers at the centre are now of the firm belief that following privatisation, the centre will close by 2016.
“Once again, Conservative councillors are ignoring service users, carers and those who provide services. The only people who want the services privatised are the council and the private company.”
