A YOUNG butcher has scooped a coveted industry award for his superior skills.

Matthew Lee was named Apprentice of the Year by the Meat Training Council, after impressing judges with his knowledge and his guide to preparing meat for display.

The ambitious butcher has worked at Cottage Farm Quality Meats, in Badgers Mount, since 2007.

Mr Lee, who completed his junior apprenticeship last June, will begin tackling his advanced apprenticeship later this month.

He is due to collect the award at the Meat Training Council's annual prizegiving ceremony in London next month.
