More than 1,000 vehicles were stopped in the Chislehurst area on Saturday as police continue their investigation into the fire at Darul Uloom Islamic School.

Officers returned to the scene in a fresh appeal for information relating to the fire on Saturday, June 8, and are now following up a number of new lines of enquiry.

An 18-year-old boy was arrested in Greenwich on suspicion of arson with intent on Tuesday of last week, and was taken into custody at a south London police station. He was bailed to return on a date in August.

Almost 130 staff and pupils were evacuated when the blaze broke out at around 11.50pm. Two people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation but they did not require hospital treatment.

The school re-opened on the morning of Sunday, June 9 and there was just minimal damage to the building.

Four teenagers previously arrested have also been bailed to return in August.

Anyone with information can call police on 101 or, to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
