A 24-YEAR-OLD man was cautioned for possessing an offensive weapon after a brawl broke out when gunshots were fired randomly.

The incident took place at the Seaway car park in Southend, Essex, in the early hours of last Sunday. It is believed the man, from Bromley, was wielding a car brace, used for changing tyres on vehicles, when officers arrested him. The fight was caused by gunshots allegedly being fired randomly as people were leaving surrounding nightclubs. Nobody was injured.

Nine men were arrested on firearms and public order offences. An Essex police spokesperson said: "It was around 2.45am when there were reports of a handgun having been seen and fired. Armed police officers were in immediate attendance and a man was arrested and a handgun recovered. The other arrests followed soon after and some related to disorder among the large number of people leaving nearby nightclubs. In the course of arrests, three male police officers were injured, one aged 24 suffered a fractured hand and the other two had lesser injuries.
