THE Variety Club has donated a new minibus to a playgroup for children with special needs.

With the help of sponsorship by property developer Crest Nicholson, the charity has gifted the Variety Club Sunshine Coach to replace an eight-year-old one at the Petts Wood Playgroup.

The 14-seater was presented to the playgroup in Willet Way, Orpington, on June 26 by Miss Kent Sinead Blaney and members of West Kent Golf Club, who took part in a fundraising match on the same day.

Larry Simpson, leader of Petts Wood Playgroup, which caters for 30 children, said: "We are thrilled to accept the minibus and grateful to sponsors Crest Nicholson, who made it possible. Our old minibus was eight years old and served us very well. We hope the new one does the same."

Helen Saunders, group marketing executive at Crest Nicholson, said: "Each year I am staggered by the amount of money we raise through the generosity of Crest Nicholson employees and our suppliers and subcontractors, to help us support The Variety Club Children's Charity."

The Variety Club has put more than 4,890 Sunshine Coaches on the road, each averaging 10,000 miles a year and carrying up to 17 children.
