A CITY high-flier who spent years building a 'vile' collection of nearly 11,000 child porn photos was jailed for six months on Thursday, February 12.

Jonathan Pegington, 32, of Link Way, Bromley repeatedly downloaded exploitative snaps of teenage and pre-pubescent girls, saving them on a secret computer disc, Southwark Crown Court heard.

When police arrested the married accountant he confessed he was glad he had been caught because he realised he 'had a problem'.

Peter Zinner, prosecuting, said: "In excess of 10,000 of the images were images of girls in sexual poses but some showed penetration by adults.

"One involved a girl of eight.

"When the defendant was interviewed he fully admitted the offences and confirmed he was responsible for effectively downloading the images from the internet for his own sexual gratification."

Most of the photographs were stored on a portable hard-drive which he used to conceal his obsession from his wife.

He explained he became interested in child porn after he and his wife both experienced depression and drifted apart.

Pegington nodded profusely as the court heard he felt 'huge regret and embarrassment' at his behaviour.

Passing sentence Judge Stephen Robbins told Pegington, who holds a senior position handling around £6million-worth of accounts: "You know the court must bear in mind the victims of this vile trade.

"You express, I am sure, sincere regret but the fact is children's lives have been blighted because they have been used and abused for the production of these images."

Pegington was also handed a sexual offences prevention order banning him from owning any device for accessing the internet other than for business until further order.

He is already banned from working with children for life and will have to sign as a sex offender for seven years.

Pegington, who admitted four specimen counts of making indecent images of children and one of possession, glanced at his wife in the public gallery as he was led from the dock.
