A PERVERT who pestered a young sex abuse victim with text messages is facing jail.

Paul Cawley, 33, asked: 'What colour underwear have you got on?' and told the girl 'I want a sexy video' via her mobile.

Cawley was cleared of molesting the girl, and during his trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court, he insisted that he sent the texts as a 'laugh'.

But jurors convicted Cawley of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

He had also denied preying on the girl at her Bromley home in October 2007 and an attack at his Mile End flat 10 months earlier.

But he admitted knowing the girl had already suffered sex abuse at the hands of a paedophile between 1997 and 2005.

"I just heard that something had gone on, maybe of a sexual nature," Cawley told jurors.

Cawley was snared when the girl showed his texts to a family friend, the court heard.

He later confessed to sending the depraved messages after he was arrested on November 11, 2007, but claimed they were pranks, said Prosecutor Babatunde Alabi.

He said: "The defendant admitted that he sent text messages of a sexual nature in the past.

"Cawley claimed they were jokes and he was just mucking around.

"The text messages cannot have been a joke because it was inappropriate for the defendant to send them to a young girl who had been abused in the past."

Cawley, of Bradley House, Bromley High Street, denied two counts of sexual activity with a child and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

He will be sentenced at a later date,
