Penge residents evacuated over ‘suspicious suitcase’

PUBLISHED: 10:50 09 July 2012

Penge residents were evacuated after reports of a suspicious suitcase left on a double-decker bus on Saturday night (7).

Police were called at around 9pm to Croydon Road where the route 176 had stopped at the junction with Evelina Road.

The street was cordoned off and residents were evacuated while police investigated.

The suitcase was deemed non-suspicious at around 10.25pm when the road reopened and residents were allowed to return to their homes.

Police believe the suitcase, found to be full of women’s cosmetics, was left on the bus by mistake.
