A Penge couple have been sentenced after they were caught by Bromley Police fleeing the scene of a Chislehurst burglary.

Jon Brindley, 41, and Claire Smith, 40, both of Whateley Road, Penge appeared at Croydon Crown Court on May 28. Brindle pleaded guilty to burglary and was jailed for 18 months, as well being fined £100.

Smith pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods and was sentenced to 80 hours community service.

On February 4, police received reports of a male shining a torch into various drives in Beechcroft, Chislehurst. When officers arrived, they found Brindle and Smith returning to a van before driving off.

The van was stopped and the pair were arrested after items were discovered from a recent shed burglary in the vehicle.
