SCORES of young performers have taken to the stage to audition for this year's pantomime.

The hopefuls were competing for up to 30 places to star alongside Brookside actress Claire Sweeney in The Churchill's show, Sleeping Beauty, this Christmas.

The auditions are part of Robinsons Search for a Star national campaign, which aims to get children into pantomime at their local theatres.

Head judge Kevin Wood said: "The search is a great way to encourage kids to practise, play and perform, attributes at the very heart of childhood. Inspiring local children to get involved is a brilliant way to celebrate those childhood stories we cherish even as adults."

Sleeping Beauty will be playing at The Churchill from December 4 to January 10.
