Orpington Town Centre has been given a boost after traders voted in favour of the borough’s first Business Improvement District.

The ballot, which ended last week, has handed Orpington 1st the responsibility of improving the look and feel of the town, improving parking and tacking crime and anti-social behaviour.

Chairman of Orpington 1st, Gary Morris, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the positive result which represents months of hard work and heralds the start of an exciting time for Orpington.

“We can guarantee that Orpington 1st won’t be resting on its laurels and will be getting started on delivering the campaign promises straight away.”

The total number of votes cast during the ballot was 164, meaning a turnout of 48 per cent. Around 54 per cent of traders voted in favour of the BID.
