Orpington student Kajan scoops Young Chef Award

A Bromley pupil has won the Kent Young Chef Award 2015.
Kajan Subakannan, 12, from St Olaves and St Saviors Grammar School, Orpington, was named the junior winner following a live cook off at the Hadlow Group, West Kent College, Tonbridge.
The finalists had two hours to produce their seasonal, regional recipes and had to bring all the raw ingredients with them.
The college provided each finalist with catering students who helped with queries and equipment but were not allowed to assist with any cooking.
Kajan cooked pork loin, served with a sage stuffing, yorkshire pudding, crackling and mashed potato.
Head judge Richard Phillips said: “The judging panel had a difficult job this year particularly with the seniors who all presented very accomplished and seasonal dishes.
“All four of the judges were very impressed with the calibre of the cooking, their technical ability and the final execution of the dishes.”
