An Orpington under 12 Scrabble World Champion is the focus of new Channel 4 documentary series Child Genius.

Year 6 pupil Shrinidhi Prakash is one of 21 children followed by cameras as they take part in a contest for exceptionally gifted children, run in association with British Mensa.

Competing against some youngsters with IQs in Britain’s top two per cent, Shrinidhi is shown expressing her love words and says she hopes to one day have a say in which words make it into the dictionary.

Shrinidhi says she likes to “play with words” and discusses her Scrabble accomplishments, as well as revealing she is currently writing her fourth novel.

The youngster also tells how her intelligence can get in the way of making friends.

She said: “Sometimes you get into a bit of trouble making friends. Books are sort of friends to me.”

Child Genius continues on Tuesday at 9pm on Channel 4. For more information, visit channel4.com/programmes/child-genius.
