Orpington’s new fire station is set for its officially opening today by the Mayor of Bromley, Kim Botting.
Crews first began operating from the station in July last year, and replaced the old station built on the same site in 1958.
Councillor Botting said: “Orpington’s new fire station is a very welcome addition to the area and will help ensure that our residents and those in neighbouring boroughs have a facility that is fit for purpose.”
London Fire Commissioner Ron Dobson said: “The old Orpington fire station was built over 58 years ago and was fast becoming unsuitable for modern day use.
“It has now been completely rebuilt in order to meet with the current demands of the local population.”
“This brand new fire station is fantastic for the local community it serves, as well as for the firefighters who can now benefit from the new facilities.
“Orpington is now home to one of the best and most modern fire stations in London.”
Construction first began on the building in January 2014, and it has been built to high environmental standards, with green technology including solar panels used in the building.
