Sprinter Dina Asher-Smith has been shortlisted for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award.

The 17-year-old, from Orpington, was the youngest member of the Great Britain athletics team that travelled to the World Championships, in Moscow, this summer - claiming a bronze medal in the 4x100m relay.

Having completed her GCSEs in July, the past five months have been a whirlwind for Dina - who is also the current European junior 200m champion.

She will compete alongside the likes of Manchester United midfielder Adnan Januzaj, Paralympic swimmer Amy Marren and golf prodigy Charley Hull.

The shortlisted 10 sports stars will be whittled down to just three, who will be announced live on Blue Peter on Thursday. Past winners include Wayne Rooney, Tom Daley and Andy Murray.

Last month, Dina was also nominated for the Sunday Times and Sky Sports Young Sportswoman of the Year award.

In October, the Blackheath and Bromley Harrier was handed the London Biggin Hill Airport Outstanding Athlete of the Year award at The Ravensbourne School, in Hayes Lane, Bromley.

Fellow Harrier Adam Gemili has also seen his star rise at an incredible rate over the past 12 months, culminating with the Athletics Weekly Breakthrough Award.

He became only the second Briton ever to run inside 20 seconds when he clocked 19.98s in his semi-final at the World Championships.
